The British Potato Council aims to improve competitiveness and increase usage of GB potatoes. They are a non-departmental public body funded by purchasers and growers. The website is a source of information on every aspect of the potato industry including consumer information and recipes, information on imports and exports and the daily price of potatoes.

Campden and Chorleywood Food Research Association (CCFRA)

An independently funded research organisation for the food industry. Research is carried out on behalf of its membership - food companies, packaging companies, ingredient manufacturers and other food-related organisations. The site provides an overview of the activities of CCFRA along with summaries of their research. There is also a section on legislation affecting the food industry.

Codex Alimentarius Commission

The Codex Alimentarius Commission was created in 1963 by FAO and WHO to develop food standards, guidelines and related texts such as codes of practice under the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme. The main purposes of this Programme are protecting health of the consumers and ensuring fair trade practices in the food trade, and promoting coordination of all food standards work undertaken by international governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)

Defra (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) was created in June 2001 to drive forward the Government's programmes on the environment, food and rural affairs.

The Department of Health is responsible for setting health and social care policy in England. The Department's work sets standards and drives modernisation across all areas of the NHS, social care and public health. Environment Agency

A public organisation aimed at protecting the environment in England and Wales. The agency regulates industry, maintains flood defences and water resources, and improves wildlife habitats. The site contains information on enforcement and prosecution, agency charging schemes as well as business issues such as waste minimisation, sustainability and how to reduce flood risk. There is a news section and a listings of their publications.

The site publishes large amounts of information about EU business such as legislation (including legislation in progress), EU grants and loans, statistics and publications. The site explains the role of the EU and its strategic objectives and provides links to EU institutions

European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)

EFSA provides independent scientific advice on all matters with a direct or indirect impact on food safety. The site holds information on the organisation structure, publications, press information and procurement.

Fediol is the Federation that represents the vegetable oils and fats industry in the European Union.

Federation of Oils Seeds and Fats Association (FOSFA)

The Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Associations (FOSFA) was founded in 1971 on the amalgamation of four predecessor associations, the oldest of which dates back to 1863. Today the Federation represents over 700 members in 67 countries. FOSFA is a professional international contract issuing and arbitral body concerned exclusively with the world trade in oilseeds, oils, fats and edible groundnuts.

Local Authorities Co-ordinators of Regulatory Services (LACORS)

LACORS provides advice and guidance to help support local authority regulatory and related services. It was set up in 1978 to coordinate the enforcement activities of trading standards. Since 1991, LACORS has also worked on food safety and is currently responsible for a range of other regulatory and related services.

Midland Seafish Industry Training Association (MSITA)

MSITA is one of the 17 Group Training Associations set up by the Sea Fish Industry Authority in the UK. Their remit is to promote the benefits of training and developing staff to achieve their true potential in the fishing, processing/distribution, fish frying and retail sectors of the industry.
