Members of NEODA all operate under, and are signatories to the NEODA Guarantee of Confidence scheme. As part of the scheme, NEODA members participate in the Oil Monitoring Programme, designed to monitor the quality of products supplied to the food service industry.
Specific packs of vegetable oils and animal fats are collected throughout the UK. The samples, packed by both NEODA and non-NEODA members, are then sent for independent analysis to an accredited laboratory to check that what is in the product matches the ingredient label and the specified volume is accurate.
The NEODA Oil Monitoring Programme is in place to ensure customers and consumers are not misled as to the nature or quantity of oils being sold.
If you are a caterer purchasing Sunflower Oil how do you know if you are getting the oil you are paying for, and not a cheaper vegetable oil alternative? Without the sophisticated chemical analysis it is virtually impossible for wholesalers, retailers or end-users to check the specification of the product against the product delivered, which creates opportunities for fraud.
The NEODA Oil Monitoring Programme has exposed multiple adulterations, such as genetically modified soyabean oil sold as rapeseed oil; groundnut oil which was in fact blended with cheaper soyabean oil, and palm oil containing an additive not permitted in the UK.
By eliminating the cases of misleading and fraudulent products, NEODA’s programme raises standards across the edible oils trade.
All NEODA members produce high quality products that are labelled accurately and legally.
Potential fraudulent activities arise when these products are sold to a small minority of unscrupulous independent oil packers who then commit deliberate fraud.
The NEODA logo ensures what it says on the box, bottle, or drum, is what is in the box, bottle or drum.
Only buy edible oils and fats that display the NEODA Guarantee of Confidence Logo to ensure the highest quality.
YOU SHOULD ONLY BUY EDIBLE OILS AND FATS THAT DISPLAY THE NEODA GUARANTEE OF CONFIDENCE LOGO.

Fish and Chip lovers across the UK are coming together on Friday 2 June to once again celebrate the nation’s favourite dish and NEODA are proud to be organising this special day again. Following the phenomenal success of the event last year, National Fish & Chip Day 2017 will see people throughout the country celebrating their love of the this iconic meal from fish & chip shops, pub chains, restaurants, retailers, to the fishermen and farmers who provide the sustainable and natural ingredients used to create it. We want to help Fish & Chip shops across the UK benefit from this awareness day and can offer advice on decorating your shops, running special promotions and competitions and generally creating a huge buzz about fish and chips. We are preparing an information pack with guidance on how to get the most from social media and your local and regional press with logos, images and press release templates available for you to use. All this helps to raise awareness, which in turn drives footfall to your shops. In 2016 #nationalfishandchipday began trending on Twitter and Facebook at 9.30 in the morning and the broadcast and print media coverage achieved helped make the footfall experienced by fish & chip shops one of the highest of the year, with some saying it was even busier than Good Friday. More than 28 million people saw, heard or read about National Fish & Chip Day! 2017 looks set to exceed these results and we want to give you support and insight to turn this into a very special Fryday!
Following fierce competition in the UK's best Fish and Chip Shop competition, huge congratulations go to the winner of the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop for 2017 - Kingfisher Fish and Chips, Plymouth. Huge congratulations to both Nikki and Craig from all the NEODA members.
