Cottonseed Oil

Cotton is grown in warm climates and most of the world’s cotton is grown in the USA, Uzbekistan, China and India. Other leading cotton-growing countries are Brazil, Pakistan and Turkey.

Cottonseed oil is extracted from the kernels. It produces both food and animal feed in addition to a highly versatile fibre for clothing, home furnishings and industrial uses. Cottonseed oil ranks 3rd in volume behind soyabean and corn oil. Cottonseed oil has a mild, nut like taste and is clear with a light golden colour.

Common uses

  • A Frying oil used in both commercial and domestic use
  • Salad Oil and in the production of mayonnaise, sauces and marinades
  • Shortening or margarine production
  • Baked goods and cake icings.
